• Executive Order No. 2001 - 3

The State of Michigan through the creation of the Department of Information Technology has set a clear direction with respect to IT standards:

"WHEREAS, the creation of a new Department of Information Technology will strengthen central policymaking and direction-setting in all areas of information technology, bring about improved information management and data standardization....."

One significant implementation of this directive is the development, promotion and implementation of all State surveying, mapping, and related geographic data standards for the purpose of developing a state geographic data information resource, reducing duplication, reducing the expense of data collection, and increasing the sharing of available data. All standards in this section are designed with these goals in mind.
