How do I send a prisoner money?

Money sent to a prisoner must be a cashier's check, a certified check or a money order. The prisoner's name and MDOC number, and the sender's printed name, signature and address, should appear on the check or money order. No cash or personal checks will be accepted. The cashier's check, certified check or money order must be mailed to the Accounting Office of the facility where the inmate is housed. Be sure to specify the prisoner name and MDOC number for proper distribution. Some prisons provide drop boxes to receive a cashier's check, certified check or money order. If a prisoner is transferred from one facility to another, funds in his or her account will follow.
