Who We Are
The Department of Environmental Quality Air
Quality Division (AQD) is responsible for ensuring that Michigan's air
remains clean. Air pollution sources are regulated to minimize adverse
impacts on human health and the environment. Michigan strives to meet and
maintain federal and state air quality standards, limits emissions of
hazardous and toxic pollutants, and keeps the public informed about air
quality conditions. Staff work to reduce outdoor air pollution and prevent
deterioration of the air resource. This is done through emission control
programs, monitoring, planning, voluntary reductions, permit limits, and
source inspections.
