Jenny's Heroes Community Grant Program
Talk show host and philanthropist Jenny Jones will donate an additional $1 million to continue her community grant program, providing grants of up to $25,000 each to fund projects that promise long-term community benefits. The program's focus is primarily in communities where fund raising is often found difficult or lacking. Deadline: Open.
The National Gardening Association works with sponsoring companies and organizations, providing in-kind grants to projects that actively engage kids in the garden and improve the quality of life within their communities. Interested schools or organizations must plan to garden with at least 15 kids, between the ages of 3 and 18 (Mantis Award open to non-youth individuals). Lowe’s Charitable and Education Foundation, International Paper and National Geographic Explorer! classroom magazine have united to create an outdoor classroom grant program managed through the Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant program. This new program provides K-12 public schools with supplementary resources to improve their science curriculum through encouraging hands-on experience outside the classroom.
Apply now! The deadline for applications is October 15, 2009, but if 1500 applications are received prior to the deadline, the application process will close early.
The Captain Planet Foundation is now accepting applications for projects fostering greater understanding of environmental issues. The range of grants awarded is from $250 to $2,500. Grants are awarded as the foundation’s annual resources allow.
Deadlines: Proposals are reviewed over a three month period from the date of the application deadline: September 30, 2009; December 31, 2009; March 31, 2010; and June 30, 2010.
NEA Learning & Leadership and Student Achievement Grants
The NEA Learning & Leadership Grants provide opportunities for educators to engage in high-quality professional development. The grant amount is $2,000 for individuals and $5,000 for groups engaged in collegial study. The Student Achievement Grants provide grants of $5,000 to help students improve academic achievement by engaging in critical thinking and problem solving that deepen the knowledge of standards-based subject matters.

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG)
EECBG Multi-Purpose Grants, given through the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor, and Economic Growth, will help eligible cities, townships, and counties implement energy efficiency and conservation strategies. LED Demonstration Grants will allow local governments to implement projects using Light Emitting Diode (LED) products, to both reduce energy use and increase public awareness of LED technology.

Project Learning Tree Grants
Project Learning Tree offers GreenWorks! grants to engage teachers and students with their local community in learning-by-doing environmental projects. Projects enable schools to make a positive impact on their communities.
The $250 to $1000 category requires: training in a PLT project; planning and implementing a project; integration of student learning and community service; inclusion of at least one community partner; a 50% funding match, and completion in one year.
The $1,001 - $5,000 category requires: applicants to meet all of the above requirements; involvement of increased numbers of students and community partners; and a plan to administer a Project Learning Tree professional development workshop for the staff of the school(s) sponsoring the proposal.
The deadline is October 31, 2009.

Seeds for Education Grants
This Grant Program gives small monetary grants to schools for the purpose of establishing outdoor learning centers. Grant recipients are those which most successfully reflect the Wild Ones mission to educate and share information about the benefits of using native plants in landscaping and promoting biodiversity and sound practices.

Zula International Early Science Educator Award for K-2 Teachers
The Zula International–NSTA Early Science Educator Awards recognizes and honors two (2) full-time PreK–2 teachers who successfully use innovative inquiry-based science to enhance science teaching and learning in their classroom. To be eligible, you must be a PreK–2 teacher with membership in one of the following: NSTA, CESI, NAEYC, or NHSA. The award is $1,000 toward expenses to attend the NSTA National Conference and $400 for the awardee. Last year only 13 teachers applied for this award, so you are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this wonderful award.

National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program
This is a competitive grant for diesel engine emissions reduction solutions that can be used to purchase equipment, vehicles and technology to assist the U.S. EPA and states in the Midwest region in lowering the level of particulate matter (soot) that comes from a diesel engine. Applicants may incorporate idle reduction technology, vehicle/equipment replacement, engine repowers or upgrades as well as install retrofit technologies on vehicles and equipment such as buses, medium and heavy duty trucks, stationary diesel engine generators, non-road construction, mining or agricultural equipment, and marine and cargo handling equipment.

The Toyota TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers program, sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., and administered by NSTA, is now accepting grant proposals for the 2009-2010 competition. Since its inception in 1990, the program has awarded grants totaling greater than $8.6 million to science teachers! This year, 70 grants of varying amounts up to $10,000 will be awarded to educators for pioneering projects that enhance science education. Proposals can be submitted in one of three categories: physical science application, environmental science education, and integrating literacy and science.
Applications must be submitted no later than January 18, 2010 to be considered.

Captain Planet Foundation Grants The Captain Planet Foundation is accepting applications for funding projects that help students better grasp environmental issues. Projects must promote understanding of environmental issues, focus on hands-on activities, involve students ages 6 to 18, promote interaction and cooperation within a group, help young people develop planning and problem-solving skills, include adult supervision, and commit to follow-up communication with the Foundation. National Education Association Student Achievement Grants The NEA Foundation provides grants to improve the academic achievement of students in U.S. public schools and public higher education institutions in any subject area(s). The proposed work should engage students in critical thinking and problem solving that deepen their knowledge of standards-based subject matter. The work should also improve students' habits of inquiry, self-directed learning, and critical reflection. Applications may be submitted at any time, and educators of students from Pre K through college are invited to apply.
Adobe Community Action Grants Adobe supports strategic programs and partnerships that help make communities better, stronger, and more vibrant places to live and work. Adobe Systems awards one-time grants for one year general operating and program support ranging from $5,000-$20,000 to programs and organizations that focus on creativity in education and commitment to community. Eligible nonprofit organizations and schools must be located in one of the following areas: San Jose/Silicon Valley and San Francisco, California; Seattle/King County, Washington; and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Sylvan Dell Publishing Announces Educational Resource Grant The grant provides a free, one-year site license (2008/2009 school year) for unlimited access to 35 Sylvan Dell eBooks, featuring flipviewer technology with selectable English and Spanish text and audio. Grants will be awarded to one elementary school per district and open to every district in the United States and Canada. Water Quality Monitoring Volunteer Opportunity Five volunteer organizations have been awarded grants by the Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps) to assist the state of Michigan in monitoring water quality. These grants were awarded through the MiCorps Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program, which provides specialized training so that these volunteer groups would be able to obtain high-quality data on the state's water resources. Some of the work these volunteer organizations will be doing include monitoring small water-dwelling organisms, such as worms or mollusks, which can be affected by change in water quality as well as providing food for fish and other higher organisms. They also will be looking for traces of pollution by monitoring the water's chemistry.
Young Explorers Grant The National Geographic Society's Young Explorers Grants for 18-25 year-olds to pursue research, exploration, and conservation-related projects consistent with National Geographic's existing grant programs.
