Governor to Confer Certificates at RCAR State Recognition Ceremony on July 8, 2008 at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit - News Release

July 2, 2008 - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm will confer certificates to individuals who have completed the Road Construction Apprenticeship Readiness Program (RCAR) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2008.  The event will take place at the Greater Grace Temple.  

RCAR is tuition-paid, fast-track, customized training that equips women, minorities, and low-income individuals with the skills and certification they need to enter and succeed in road construction apprenticeships. The inaugural group of RCAR-certified individuals who completed the rigorous curriculum is part of the new initiative under the Road Construction Workforce Development Program.

Partners in the RCAR initiative include the state Department of Labor & Economic Growth and the Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, the skilled trades, organized labor, federal and state agencies, faith-based organizations, and education providers that have been instrumental in making RCAR a national model for apprenticeship readiness and success.  Guests, partners, and training providers will attend the ceremony.

                    23500 West 7 Mile Road, Detroit, MI  48219

The meeting site and parking are accessible. Individuals attending the ceremony are requested to refrain from using heavily scented personal care products, in order to enhance accessibility for everyone. People with disabilities requiring additional services (such as materials in alternative format) in order to participate in the ceremony should call (517) 241-2885 or email hasbanye@michigan.gov at least three business days prior to the event.
