Elevator Safety Board Responsibilities and Meeting Schedule

The Elevator Safety Board was created by 1967 PA 227. Among its major responsibilities are promulgation of rules, preparation of examinations, and issuance of elevator contractor licenses.

Ten of the board members are appointed by the governor, with the advice and consent of the senate, to serve 4-year terms. Upon expiration of a term, a member may continue to serve until a successor is appointed. The eleventh board member is the director of the Department.
