Contact:  Eric Fransen 989-386-4088
Agency: Natural Resources

July 10, 2008

The Department of Natural Resources today announced that Wilson State Park is celebrating Christmas in July from July 25-27.

The park will be the scene of decorated campsites, crafts for children, a dressed-up dog parade, hayrides and, instead of roasting chestnuts, the park will roast marshmallows. Each child is asked to bring a universal gift, valued at less than $10, for the children's gift exchange.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, there will be a dog training session followed by the dog parade at 11 a.m. The dogs can come in costume or they can come as they are. Saturday afternoon there will be craft projects for the children. The campground hayrides will begin at 8 p.m., followed by the marshmallow roast at the camp host site. Judging for the best decorated campsite will take place on Saturday evening.

Reservations for camping at Wilson State Park can be made by calling (800) 447-2757 or online at www.midnrreservations.com. More information about Christmas in July at Wilson can be obtained by calling the park at (989) 386-4088. The park is ocated near Harrison in the central Lower Peninsula.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the park entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily. A nonresident annual is $29 and a nonresident daily is $8.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
