Seasonal Positions

If you are looking for a summer job with flexible hours in the great outdoors, then become a state worker at one of Michigan's state parks, harbors or boating access sites.

Effective August 1, 1998, Civil Service Rule 1-7 requires that all persons newly hired into State government positions submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test prior to their actual appointment to the classified service. Additionally, current employees not occupying a test-designated position shall submit to a drug test if the employee is selected for a test-designated position.

Parks and Recreation Areas
More than 1,200 workers will be hired this summer to work at any of the 98 state parks and recreation areas, nearly 700 boating access sites and 16 harbors. Part- and full-time employment is available, with an opportunity to work up to 1,040 hours during the summer season.

These are great jobs for college students looking to earn tuition money, individuals who are looking to re-enter the workforce and seniors and retirees looking to be more active during the warmer months.

Job responsibilities may include handling permit sales in the visitor contact booth and performing other campground duties, such as clerical work, trail maintenance, mowing, landscaping and janitorial.

Seasonal employees (State Workers)are paid a minimum of $7.65/hour and may work up to 1,040 hours. Candidates should be 18 and older and be willing to work weekends and evenings.

Interested individuals must complete an Employment Application Form #PR-7123e and submit it to the park/recreation area or boating facility where they would like to work. Click here for State Parks and Recreation Areas . Additional positions may be available at Parks and Recreation Division's District and Field Offices. For additional information, call (517) 373-9900.
