The Michigan Forest Visitor Center and Hartwick Pines Logging Museum today announced the 11th annual Forest Fest will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, at Hartwick Pines State Park, northeast of Grayling.

Activities take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All youngsters will receive a Natural Resource Passport in which they attempt to visit all of the activity stations. If the passport is completed, they will receive a prize.

Events include children's activities and games, exhibits and displays on various forest and natural resource-related subjects, information on the current status of the health of Michigan's forests and where to go to get natural resource management assistance, educational handouts on preventing and suppressing wildfires, forest management and health, and displays by various wildlife organizations.

All activities are free; however, all motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the park entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily. A nonresident annual is $29 and a nonresident daily is $8.
