August 14, 2008

Pontiac Lake Recreation Area is planning an East vs. West Campground "GO-Get Outdoors Summer Olympics" event over Labor Day Weekend.

On Friday, Aug. 29, events will include stargazing, a marshmallow roast, and a sing-along. A scavenger hunt, focusing on "Going Green," will also be one of the events. Information and paperwork for the scavenger hunt will be provided to interested participants on Friday. All participants will be required to turn in the results of their scavenger hunt by 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, just prior to the community potluck.

On Saturday, Aug. 30, the Pontiac Lake campground host will invite campers to participate in a campground potluck, beginning at 3 p.m. The East vs. West campgrounds will be pitted against each other for the best dish. Pontiac Lake Supervisor Karis Floyd will be one of the judges and join the event to give campers an opportunity to ask questions and share experiences.

On Sunday, Aug. 31, campers will be able to test their skills in events such as volleyball, horseshoes, sack races, water balloon toss; flag (touch) football, and kickball. All events will begin at 1 p.m. behind the campground office.

All events are free, and prizes will be awarded to the winners of each event. Reservable sites are still available for the Labor Day weekend.
