Michigan’s Fallen Soldiers Honored

Last week, I had the honor of meeting with the families of Michigan soldiers who have died while on active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. The fathers and mothers, husbands and wives, and sons and daughters of these heroes have experienced incalculable loss, but they are proud of the ultimate sacrifice that their loved ones made. While Memorial Day is our time to salute our Michigan heroes, we should keep them in our hearts every day of the year.

The Michigan Army and Air National Guard currently have 1,543 service members deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. I invite every Michigan citizen to take a moment to salute those who have served in the armed forces and to say a prayer for the success and safe return of all those who are still serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other areas around the world.
