The First Gentleman helped kick-off the 15th annual Michigan Harvest Gathering, an event in which state residents donate food and funds to support the Food Bank Council of Michigan and its local member food banks. Food Banks in Michigan will provide 75 million pounds of emergency food to a million Michigan citizens this year and have been a part of the national effort to help provide food to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
