Michigan First Gentleman Dan Mulhern graded soil and laid sod with volunteers
at the Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build ’03 in Detroit on Saturday, September
13. Mulhern worked at the Masco Corporation Governor's House, a one and one-half
story bungalow, built for homeowner Winifred Jones and his three children. Mulhern
spoke at the house dedication and closing ceremony, where he officially presented
Jones with his home. Jones is the first single father to receive a home from
Habitat for Humanity.
Mulhern said, "The Governor talked about One Michigan, and at a Habitat
site it's not just talk. There were people from as far as Benton Harbor, corporate
people, non-profit, old, young, black, white and everything in between. If you
need to renew your hope, and build someone else's click on the link below. There
is still a ton of work necessary to complete Winfred's home and the other 15
homes that were raised up from the ground at the Blitz Build."
