Governor Granholm Announces Appointments to Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission:

Lawrence G. Almeda of Canton, intellectual property attorney for Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2012.

Constantine M. Dang of Wyoming, interim director of multicultural affairs at Grand Valley State University, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2009.      

William D. Dechavez of Sterling Heights, Michigan chairperson for the National Federation of Filipino American Associations, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2011.      

Bing Goei of Grand Rapids, president of Eastern Floral, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2012.      

Mumtaz P. Haque of Troy, producer and host of the Manoranjan Radio Show, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2010.      

Roland Hwang of Northville, assistant attorney general, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2009.    
 
Tackyong Kim of Ann Arbor, publisher of the Michigan Korean Weekly, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2009.      
 
Anand D. Kumar of Canton, president of Miindia.com, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2012.      

Guozhen Lu, Ph.D. of Canton, tenured professor of mathematics at Wayne State University, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2011.

Rona M. Lum of Oxford, attorney in private practice, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2011.  

Ananda S. Prasad, Ph.D. of Orchard Lake, distinguished professor of medicine at Wayne State University, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2011.

Ganesh V. Reddy, Ph.D. of Okemos, president and CEO of Biz Tek Innovations, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2009.      

Ernestina Santos-Mac, M.D. of Troy, pediatrician with Pediatric Consultants of Troy, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2009.   
  
Marilyn N. Schlief of Okemos, English language center instructor at Michigan State University and Lansing Community College of Haslett, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2011.        

Ehsan Taqbeem of Rochester, president of the Bangladeshi American Public Affairs Committee, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2009.      

Jeffrey Vang of Chesterfield, staff pharmacist for the Mt. Clemens Regional Medical Center, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2012.

Ramesh C. Verma of Novi, business development consultant with Hanscomb Faithful & Gould, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2010.      

H. Sook Wilkinson, Ph.D. of Bloomfield Hills, psychologist in private practice, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2010.  Ms. Wilkinson is also designated to serve as chairperson of the Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.      

Leslie Wong, Ph.D. of Marquette, president of Northern Michigan University, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2010.  

Peter K. Wong of Grosse Pointe Farms, president and CEO of Roy Smith Company, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2010.  

Tsu-Yin Wu, Ph.D., RN of Ann Arbor, associate professor for the Eastern Michigan University School of Nursing and director of the Healthy Asian American Project at the University of Michigan, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2012.

The Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission, recently reorganized by Executive Order 2009-21, is charged with promoting awareness of the Asian and Pacific American community in the areas of economic development, social and cultural issues.

These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
