Governor Granholm Announces Appointments, Reappointments to Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention and Control Commission

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm announced the following recent appointments and reappointments to the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention and Control Commission: 

Darlene Alethia Carr of Detroit, acting director of the Bureau of Family, Maternal and Child Health of the Michigan Department of Community Health, is appointed to represent the Michigan Department of Community Health for a term expiring December 31, 2010.  She is also designated to serve as chair of the commission for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.

Kimberly A. Kovalchick of East Lansing, health education consultant for the Michigan Department of Education, is appointed to represent the Department of Education for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

Mary DuFour Morrow of Northville, lead attorney of the childhood lead poisoning prevention unit for the Wayne County prosecutor's office, is appointed to represent the Prosecuting Attorney Coordinating Council for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

William G. Parker of Lansing, home and CDBG program specialist and interim housing resource fund director for the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, is appointed to represent the Michigan State Housing Development Authority for a term expiring December 31, 2010.  He succeeds Bruce C. Jeffries whose term has expired.

Irvin J. Poke of Lansing, chief of plan review division for the Department of Labor and Economic Growth Bureau of Construction Codes, is appointed to represent the Department of Labor and Economic Growth for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

Randy R. Barst of Frankenmuth, director of the Saginaw County Department of Human Services, is reappointed to represent the Department of Human Services for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

Carole Ann Beaman, Ph.D., LLP of Detroit, disability services and mental health coordinator for the Detroit Public Schools Project Head Start, is reappointed to represent parents of a child who has experienced lead poisoning or child advocates with experience with lead poisoning in children from cities with a population of 750,000 or more for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

Joan R. Dyer of Grand Rapids, program supervisor of the Kent County Health Department, is reappointed to represent "Get the Lead Out!" from counties with a population of more than 500,000, but not more than 700,000, for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

Clay B. Powell of Kentwood, director of the Rental Property Owners Association of Kent County and director of Rental Property Owners Association of Michigan, is reappointed to represent the general public representing owners and developers in this state for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

Laurel R. Sproul of Bear Lake, maternal and child services supervisor for the Muskegon County Health Department, is reappointed to represent local health departments located in counties with a population of more than 170,000, but not more than 200,000, for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention and Control Commission is charged with leading a statewide effort to eliminate lead poisoning in Michigan's children by 2010 by offering a wide range of initiatives and concrete recommendations for future policy direction.   

These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
