Whereas, Trees play a significant role in our environment and in the quality of our lives by providing shelter, nourishment, and bringing beauty to our surroundings; and,
Whereas, Maintaining our heritage of beautiful woodland and preventing the reduction of our forests is an important mission of the state of Michigan; and,
Whereas, In Michigan, we are fortunate to have a rich variety of trees that present us with the glorious gift of color each autumn, reds and oranges that remind us of the cycle of life that we are all a part of; and,
Whereas, The threat to our ecosystem must be fought with the planting of new trees to bestow future generations with the blessing of trees throughout their lifetimes; and now therefore be it
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of April 20, 2008, as Arbor Week and April 25, 2008, as Arbor Day in Michigan.
