Whereas, Distributive Education Clubs of America, DECA, is a nationally recognized
organization representing high school students studying the areas of marketing,
management and entrepreneurship; and,
Whereas, The goals of DECA are to make students aware of the many different
educational and career opportunities available to them after graduation; and,
Whereas, This student organization has a set of goals they faithfully strive
to achieve through business-oriented activities and programs, including vocational
understanding, social intelligence, civic consciousness and leadership development;
and,
Whereas, Every club member has many opportunities to participate in educational
outlets such as hands-on selling, which helps to instill the competitive business
edge needed to succeed in the world marketplace; and,
Whereas, DECA also promotes social and civic activities that assist students
in obtaining experience necessary to secure jobs and higher education opportunities;
and,
Whereas, Annually, DECA designates a week of the year as National DECA Week
to promote this organization in student bodies and in the community as an educational
benefit and opportunity; and now therefore be it
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State
of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of February 9, 2003 as DECA Week in
Michigan, and I encourage all interested students to participate in this unique
experience.
