Whereas, The State of Michigan recognizes and values the contributions of its
citizens with disabilities, many of whom have found hope, spirit, and dignity
through rehabilitation services; and,
Whereas, Community rehabilitation organizations throughout our state help people
with disabilities find employment to lead independent, productive and fulfilling
lives; and,
Whereas, In 2004, The MARO Employment & Training Association celebrates
thirty years representing over 60 not-for-profit community rehabilitation organizations
that provide vocational services for people with disabilities; and,
Whereas, Members of the MARO Employment & Training Association cooperate
with Community Mental Health agencies, Department of Labor and Economic Growth
– Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Michigan Works! Agencies, the Michigan
Department of Corrections, The Michigan Commission for the Blind and school
districts to help put Michigan to work; and,
Whereas, Members of the MARO Employment & Training Association are responsible
for placing over 5,000 people with developmental disabilities and chronic mental
illness into supported employment jobs; and,
Whereas, The work members of all community rehabilitation organizations do
is not only good for Michigan people, it is good for Michigan business; and
now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan,
do hereby proclaim the week of March 21, 2004, as Community Rehabilitation Organization
Week in Michigan, and I urge all citizens to recognize the importance of the
services these organizations provide.
