Whereas, The Small Business Association is the Federal agency that delivers many programs to assist small businesses throughout the states; and

Whereas, In Michigan, small businesses and entrepreneurs are a key component to our economic future; and,

Whereas, Entrepreneurs invest their energy, ideas, creativity, vision and commitment in our state's future, and the returns of small businesses  in creating new jobs, adding to economic growth and generating new revenue for both the state and nation are astounding; and,

Whereas, The United States Small Business Administration, created in 1953, is celebrating 52 years of service to the nation's small business community, and during this time it has assisted millions of Americans who exemplify the spirit of entrepreneurship and willingness to achieve; and,

Whereas, America's 25 million small businesses represent more than 99 percent of all employers, employ more than 51 percent of the private work force, generate more than 51 percent of the nation's gross domestic product, and are the principal source of 60 to 80 percent of net new jobs annually; and,

Whereas, In recognition of the small business community's contribution to the American economy and society, we honor Michigan's small business men and women –   courageous, hardworking people who have taken advantage of our nation's free enterprise system and helped to show that this is indeed a land of liberty and opportunity for all; and now therefore be it,
