Student Employment Week

Whereas, A well-educated work force, with both academic and work experience, contributes to a better, more productive society; and,

Whereas, Student employees make meaningful contributions to the work performed by Michigan colleges and universities; and,

Whereas, Student employment aids retention by helping students earn money to stay in school, as well as making valuable on-campus contacts with faculty, staff and fellow students; and,

Whereas, Students acquire work-based learning experiences that enhance and complement their academic learning, and prepares them for the world of work after graduation; and,

Whereas, Contributions of student employees greatly enhance the work and services of their institutions on many levels, whether working in residence hall food service, doing research, or working in university offices; and now therefore be it

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of April 1, 2005, as Student Employment Week in Michigan.
