Small Business Week

Whereas, America’s economy is the most prosperous in the world and the small business sector is one of its greatest strengths; and

Whereas, Entrepreneurs invest their energy, ideas, creativity, vision, and commitment in our state's future, and small businesses create new jobs and economic growth, and generate new revenue for both the state and the nation; and,

Whereas, America's 25 million small businesses represent more than 99 percent of all employers, employ more than 51 percent of the private work force, generate more than 51 percent of the nation's gross domestic product, and are the principle source of 60 to 80 percent of new jobs annually; and,

Whereas, In recognition of the small business community's contribution to the American economy and society, we honor Michigan's small business men and women – courageous, hardworking people who have taken advantage of our nation's free enterprise system and helped to show that this is indeed a land of liberty and opportunity for all; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of April 9, 2006, as Small Business Week in Michigan, honoring small business as an invaluable part of Michigan's economy.
