All Hazards NOAA Weather Radio Awareness Week

Whereas, Severe weather, in the form of thunderstorms, wind storms, ice and snow storms, floods, and tornadoes are threats to the safety and welfare of Michigan citizens; and,

Whereas, Each year in the Great Lakes State, countless people are injured or suffer property damage due to winter storms that bring extreme cold, freezing rain, ice, and snow; and,

Whereas, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio broadcasts National Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts, and other hazardous weather information 24 hours a day; and,

Whereas, The NOAA Weather Radio is an "all hazards" radio network that broadcasts warnings and post-event information for all types of hazards, both natural and environmental; and,

Whereas, Our citizens should be aware of the potentially life-saving information broadcast over the NOAA Weather Radio; and,

Whereas, The National Weather Service offices serving Michigan and emergency management officials are cooperating to educate the public about the NOAA Weather Radio network in Michigan; and therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of February 4, 2007, as All Hazards NOAA Weather Radio Awareness Week in Michigan, and I encourage all citizens to learn more about this service to help protect themselves, their families, and their homes.
