Whereas, The National Catholic Educational Association and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops have designated January 29 through February 4, 2007, as Catholic Schools Week, a time to celebrate the tradition of Catholic education; and,

Whereas, A quality education is the foundation of a child's future, and this week recognizes one of the many types of education choices available to our children; and,

Whereas, The Catholic schools of Michigan have provided outstanding education to those who have chosen to attend them, thus contributing to the welfare of the entire community; and,

Whereas, Catholic schools have trained many of the fine leaders in Michigan both in service to the Catholic Church and to our state; and,

Whereas, The Catholic school community encourages all of our citizens to discover for themselves the outstanding achievements of the Catholic school system in Michigan; and,

Whereas, The State of Michigan recognizes the valuable efforts of parents, teachers, and administrators who provide for and maintain freedom of choice in education; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of January 29, 2007, as Catholic Schools Week in Michigan.
