Whereas, Today, approximately 10.5 million Americans are cancer survivors, thanks to advances in early cancer detection, treatment and research; and,
Whereas, Over 54,410 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in Michigan this year; and,
Whereas, The great State of Michigan has an active, productive cancer survivor population, demonstrating that a cancer diagnosis is no longer an automatic death sentence; and,
Whereas, William Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan, recognizes that cancer survivors symbolize a unique sense of hope and a special strength of body and spirit; and,
Whereas, William Beaumont Hospital of Troy celebrates its 20th Annual National Cancer Survivors Day event on Sunday, June 3, 2007; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 3, 2007, as Cancer Survivors Day in Michigan.
