Whereas, Created in 1984, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan seeks to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy; and,
Whereas, Since its inception, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan has granted 5000 wishes, from having a puppy, to visiting Disney World, to being a rock star for the day; and,
Whereas, In June, 2007, The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan along with 68 other chapters across the country will embark on Destination Joy, their first ever national resource building campaign, in an effort to inspire and empower Americans to donate their time and talents to grant the wishes of the 100,000 children who will be diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions over the next four years; and,
Whereas, As part of Destination Joy, the Michigan Chapter will celebrate the granting of its 5,000th wish at Oldsmobile Park, where the wish child, Alan from Brighton, will toss out the ceremonial first pitch at a Lansing Lugnuts baseball game, and an on-field ceremony featuring wish kids and Make-A-Wish staff will take place; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 8, 2007, as Make-A-Wish Day in honor of the 5,000 wishes that Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan has granted.
