Dennis Graeber
Manager, Income Tax Section
During Michigan Department of Treasury Vision and Values sessions, employees were invited to name co-workers whom they believe exhibit one or more of the state's values of Excellence, Integrity, Inclusion, and Teamwork. These values are crucial in Making Michigan a Great Place to do Great Work.
Hundreds of Treasury employees were named by their co-workers. However, the employee named on the most responses was Dennis Graeber, Manager of the Return Processing Division's Income Tax Section.
Mr. Graeber is one of Treasury's longest-serving employees, having joined the department in September of 1968. He was hired in the Code and Registration Division as a General Clerk, processing applications for businesses conducting activity in Michigan. He was hired as a Supervisor in the Income Tax Division in February of 1985, and was promoted to Manager in 1989. As a result of the department's re-organization in October of 2000, Mr. Graeber was named Manager of the Income Tax Process and Review Section.
In this position, Mr. Graeber has approximately 40 staff reporting to him. His primary responsibility is to assure that income tax returns needing review are processed as quickly as possible. Mr. Graeber monitors this process and sets priorities to keep work flowing through the unit.
In naming him as their example of an employee who lives the State's values, co-workers used the following to describe Mr. Graeber:
Dedicated; Approachable; Treats subordinates with respect and goes the extra mile for them; He fits all of these different values with all he does; Someone to admire; Reliable; Respectful; Fair; Consistent; Takes responsibility, Seeks advice and input; Conscientious; Dedicated to seeing that customers are treated fairly and promptly; Trustworthy; Professional; Treats everyone with respect.
His direct supervisor says, Dennis "Lives the values of Integrity, Excellence, Inclusion, and Team Work every day. It is a part of his life!"
We congratulate Dennis Graeber and offer our sincere thanks for all he has done for the Michigan Department of Treasury and for the citizens of the State of Michigan in his more than 35 years of service.
