Whereas, The public need for professional guidance in the proper use of prescription and nonprescription medications is well established; and,
Whereas, The pharmacist is an expert on medication and is one of the most readily accessible members of the healthcare system; and,
Whereas, Through education and experience, the pharmacist is qualified to enhance patient therapy compliance and, in many cases, detect and prevent dangerous drug interactions; and,
Whereas, Pharmacists play a vital role in maintaining the health of Michigan's residents by providing experienced and professional assistance, and information on medications and their use; and,
Whereas, Each day, pharmacists care for patients by providing high quality, cost-effective health services and monitoring drug therapies; and,
Whereas, The demand for pharmacy services is greater than ever as many patients now take multiple medications and as the population is gradually aging;
Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of October 19, 2009, Pharmacy Week in Michigan. I encourage all residents of this state to join with the Michigan Pharmacist Association in recognizing the services of pharmacists and to consult with them about the safe, effective use of all medications.
