Whereas, Working women account for 71 million of the nation's work force, serving their communities, states and nation in professional, civic and cultural capacities; and,
Whereas, Women-owned businesses make up 30 percent of all U.S. business, generating $1.9 trillion in sales and employing 9.2 million people; and,
Whereas, The major goals of the Business and Professional Women's Foundation are to promote equality for all women and to help create better conditions for working women through the study of social, educational, economic and political problems; and,
Whereas, Susan G. Murphy, state president of the Michigan Federation of Business and Professional Women, and the members of the Michigan Federation of Business and Professional Women work to promote women in the workforce throughout the state of Michigan;
Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of October 19, 2009, Business Women's Week in Michigan. I urge all citizens in Michigan to salute working women and to celebrate the achievements of all business and professional women as they contribute daily to our economic, civic and cultural purposes.
