Whereas, Cooperative education is a learning approach facilitated by schools and colleges to help students gain competitive occupational skills by linking occupational instruction with supervised training and experience on the job; and,
Whereas, Cooperative education benefits students and employers by enabling an easier transition from high school to the work field and encourages career exploration; and,
Whereas, Cooperative education can motivate potential dropouts to stay in school and increases workplace productivity by promoting student reasoning and teamwork; and,
Whereas, The Michigan Council for Cooperative Education encourages schools, colleges and employers to collaborate and become more involved in expanding the educational environment;
Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim February 2009 Cooperative Education Month in Michigan. I encourage all students and employers to participate in training and planning seminars to learn more about the different opportunities that cooperative education can provide.
