Michigan is blessed with some of the most creative, dynamic and brilliant young minds this nation has to offer.  These are our future leaders, and it is incumbent upon us to seek out and nurture the young people who will one day lead our state.
 
I have created the Michigan Leadership Development Program to do that very thing.  This program will chose from among the best and brightest students and young professionals for competitive internships in state government.  Those selected will obtain meaningful, hands-on experience as full working partners with their professional colleagues.  The program will offer insight into the workings of state government through a range of activities, including weekly seminars featuring guest speakers, community service projects, and opportunities to attend legislative sessions, among other events.
 
I truly believe that leaders aren’t born; they’re inspired through hard work and achievement.  The Michigan Leadership Development Program will be a vehicle to provide our younger generation with invaluable experience, personal development and the immense rewards of public service.
