  • Pollution Pipe: Street to Stream (pdf)-   For students in Grades 6-12 on non-point sources of pollution found in runoff and the effects of development on watersheds. Shows the relationship between urban development and impervious ground cover created by streets, parking lots, and roofs. Provides a list of pollutants found in runoff, as well as some steps that can be taken to prevent water pollution. From the Center for Global Environmental Education (CGEE).

  • America's Water Resources - Provides information about the nation's water resources, the economic value of clean water, and actions needed to protect water resources.
  • Building a Pond (pdf) - DEQ guide to permit procedure for building a pond.
  • Common Aquatic Plants of Michigan - A description of some of the most commonly occurring aquatic plants in Michigan .
  • The Great Lakes - Comprehensive DEQ site on many issues surrounding the Great Lakes.
  • Preventing Groundwater Contamination (pdf) - Information about groundwater and ways to prevent contamination
  • Storm Drain Stenciling Project Guidelines - Information on starting storm drain stenciling projects in your community.
  • Water's Journey: The River Returns . This new environmental web documentary is an in-depth exploration of the St. John's watershed, threats to the river and efforts to clean it up. "Water's Journey: The River Returns is part of the award-winning "Water's Journey" series directed by Wes Skiles of Karst Producations.
  • Water Science for Schools- Information about a variety of water topics.   You'll find online activities, pictures, data tables, maps and a glossary of terms.    
  • Federal Funding Sources for Watershed Protection (pdf) - A new video entitled "Getting In Step: A Video Guide for Conducting Watershed Outreach Campaigns" is designed to help agencies plan and evaluate outreach programs. Created by the National Service Center for Environmental Publications (NSCEP), the video can be used as a guide for any type of environmental preparation. The NSCEP produces many other helpful publications and items through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for outreach and education. Order a copy by calling 1-800-490-9198 or on the web. 
  • Water Testing - Information on testing private water wells for drinking water. 
  • Wetland Protection   (pdf) - Describes types of wetlands and benefits to the environment.
  • Give Water a Hand - National watershed education program designed to involve young people in local environmental service projects.
  • Storm Water Teaching Guide  -   Storm water curriculum guides.
  • Storm Water Month Outreach Materials and Reference Documents -   An EPA website designed to educate all people on storm water.  
  • T.E.A.C.H. Great Lakes - Focuses on advancing the nature and distribution of Great Lakes-related education materials to the broad audience of educators and students in the Great Lakes region and beyond. 
  • Fisheries Learning on the Web - Award-winning, Web-based curriculum material for grades 4-8.   Each standards-based lesson features an engaging activity focusing on one of three primary areas: ecosystem, water, or fish.

  • Environmental Explorers' Club - Explore your environment and learn neat things you can do to protect it. Games, pictures, stories, and other fun things
  • Recycling Information -The EPA website provides a question and answer section on recycling and waste management. Find cost comparisons, life cycle assessments, information on starting a recycling program, and more.
  • Pollution Prevention in Schools (pdf) - A toolbox and survey worksheet to help evaluate pollution prevention in your school.
  • Burning Household Waste - A Source of Air Pollution in Michigan
  • Earth's 911 - Provides a hotline which is accessible by a toll-free number (1-800-CLEANUP) for individuals to get local information about recycling, household hazardous waste and other environmental issues.  Citizens can utilize the hotline to find out the closest place to take their recyclables or hazardous waste.
  • Electronic Equipment (pdf) - Technology is changing rapidly causing equipment such as computers, printers, televisions, telephones, audio-visual equipment, fax machines, video game equipment, and other devices that use circuit boards to become obsolete very quickly. Many government agencies and manufacturers are attempting to find solutions for this growing waste stream.
