The DEQ's Earth Day 2007 Celebration which took place on April 19, 2007, was visited by over 2,700 participants and attendees. Participants came from 31 participating school groups, children and staff of DEQ in celebration of Child to Work Day, MDA, and DIT, families and friends of poster contest winners, partnering organizations, and visitors from other agencies. The event included 55 displays and activities hosted by DEQ, MDA, DNR, DCH and 14 other organizations. The atrium was colorfully decorated with over 200 Earth balloons and 1,259 Earth Day posters created by Michigan students from across the state. During the event, DEQ handed out 1,925 tree seedlings to Michigan youth. Also during the Earth Day event, DEQ collected 31,000 pounds (15.5 tons) of electronic waste to be recycled.
