Contact:  Liz Boyd 517-335-6397

August 26, 2009

LANSING - Lt. Governor John D. Cherry, Jr. today issued the following statement on the passing of Senator Edward M. Kennedy:

"We have lost a champion of the people, a man whose contributions in the areas of health care, civil rights, education and labor law are immeasurable.  Senator Kennedy carried on the battles for justice and equality that his brothers John and Robert waged before him.  He worked tirelessly to improve the lives of ordinary people, and all Americans are better off for it.  The millions of people he inspired will carry on that work, and as he would say, the dream shall never die."
