Cherry Commission Implementation Updates

  • Washtenaw Community College (WCC) in Ann Arbor, MI announces a new Entrepeneurship Education Initiative.  The initiative couples technical skills with business knowledge to help students to become business owners.  This new program is the result of a grant for nearly $100,000 awarded to WCC from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth (MDLEG).  Automotive technical skills, culinary arts, and retail are examples of the skills that will be coupled with the business courses.  Students will be able to get credit in high school for taking a technical skills class and an entrepeneurship class.  If they attend WCC, they will be able to qualify for college credit.  For more information on the Entrepeneurship Education Initiative contact WCC at 734-677-5164.

  • The Kalamazoo Promise--Starting with the class of 2006, each Kalamazoo Public School (KPS) graduate will have the opportunity to attend post-secondary education with up to a 100% tuition scholarship.  The scholarship program will cover 100 percent of tuition and mandatory fees for children who have been enrolled in KPS since kindergartern and whose parents live in the district.

  • Lawrence Technological University and Oakland Community College sign an articulation agreement that will ease transfer from one of 16 Oakland Community College associate degree programs to Lawrence Tech to earn a Bachelor of Science degree.  For more information see Oakland Community College press release.
