Governor Granholm Honors Michigan Volunteers
Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today presented awards to individuals and organizations for their exemplary volunteer service at the 2008 Governor's Service Awards event, An Evening with the Stars, held at the Fox Theatre in Detroit.

2008 Michigan's AmeriCorps Week
The second-annual National AmeriCorps Week joined tens of thousands of AmeriCorps members, alums, staff, partners, and friends to celebrate service. All across Michigan, AmeriCorps Week activities and events showcased the power of AmeriCorps members and alumni and educated people about the role, impact, and importance of AmeriCorps in our communities.

AmeriCorps Alums
Calling all friends of AmeriCorps! Join AmeriCorps alums, current AmeriCorps members, and champions of service in the AmeriCorps Alums network. Registration is free and entitles you to many benefits, including career search assistance, discounts, and networking opportunities. Most importantly, it allows you to continue your greatest gift?service to others! Michigan has a statewide alums network in addition to regional chapters in West Michigan, metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Northern Michigan.

Michigan's AmeriCorps Member of the Month - June 2008: Casey Ressl, Huron Pines

Michigan's AmeriCorps Member of the Month
June 2008: Full-time AmeriCorps member, Casey Ressl has been vital to helping Huron Pines better accomplish its conservation mission and assist more people than ever before. Since the very beginning of her term of service in the fall of 2007, Casey has made a tremendous impact.

• AmeriCorps Members Revitalized Benton Harbor Neighborhood
On Wednesday, June 11th and Thursday, June 12th more than 250 current Michigan's AmeriCorps members from all over the state focused on rejuvenating Benton Harbor's neighborhoods. As part of the 2008 Russ Mawby Signature Service Project, AmeriCorps members applied their service skills at Harbor Habitat for Humanity sites in the Crystal Estates neighborhood. Projects included landscaping, building sheds, constructing subfloors, and framing.

Mission and Vision of the MCSC
The MCSC builds a culture of service by providing vision and resources to strengthen communities through volunteerism.

• The MCSC Grants Funds for Volunteer Initiatives
The MCSC supports volunteerism in Michigan by providing funding for National Service, service-learning, and other volunteer initiatives.
