The Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) Pesticide and Plant Pest Management Division, Gypsy Moth Section welcomes you to the Michigan Cooperative Gypsy Moth Suppression Program.
The objective of this Gypsy Moth County Coordinators’ Manual is to provide an overview of your role in the Michigan Cooperative Gypsy Moth Suppression Program, the general orientation of your clientele, a historical sketch of gypsy moth in Michigan and a directory of local MDA assistance.
The gypsy moth has had, and will continue to have, an impact on the wooded natural resources and the people of Michigan for the foreseeable future. The degree to which this impact is perceived to be negative will change from time to time and place to place. Local county Program Coordinators must face and attempt to resolve, on a daily basis, the dilemmas of insect versus tree, insect versus people, neighbor versus neighbor, short term gain versus long term stability, and son on. It is important for practitioners of gypsy moth population management to have a solid understanding of program objectives.
The materials contained in this County Coordinators Manual and the training you will receive from various gypsy moth management experts will provide you with the knowledge and skills to accomplish your work goals.
