Jeremy S. Stephens was appointed by the Civil Service Commission in 2009 to serve as the State Personnel Director. Throughout his career, Mr. Stephens has been responsible for negotiating labor contracts, managing employee relations programs, training and development, and compensation. He has managed multiple facilities worldwide and recently was responsible for facilities in Mexico, Brazil, the United Kingdom, China and Singapore. Through these assignments he has gained extensive knowledge and experience in strategic planning.
State Personnel Director Stephens oversees the delivery of human resource services to all executive branch state departments and agencies covering over 50,000 classified state employees. He is responsible for the formulation and implementation of the Commission's mission, strategic plans, policies, directives, organizational structure, budget oversight, and for the promulgation of regulations to further implement Commission Rules. He provides direct oversight to the Chief Deputy Director and Deputy Director who oversee the Office of Classifications, Selections & Compensation, Human Resource Operations, Business Applications Support, Employee Benefits, MI HR Service Center, Hearings, Employee Relations & Mediation, Technical Complaints, Compliance, Personal Service Review (contractual services), Career and Informational Planning and the Detroit Regional Office.
Mr. Stephens currently serves as a member of the Governor's Cabinet, was appointed by the Governor to the Michigan Corrections Officer Training Council, serves on the Equal Opportunity Diversity Council and is the Ex-Officio to the State Board of Ethics.
Mr. Stephens possesses a Master's Degree in Human Resources Management and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University.
