The Office of School Excellence

OSE is responsible for a majority of the Department's programs to:

  • Enhance early childhood development;
  • Increase children's school readiness;
  • Increase parent and community involvement in education;
  • Assist teachers and school districts with their curriculum development by establishing standards and developing education materials in key subjects such as reading,writing, math, science, social studies, arts and technology;
  • Develop model curricula for districts in health, nutrition and physical education to ensure students are healthy, fit and ready to learn;
  • Provide educators with a consistent way to guide observe, assess,instruct, record and articulate children's early literacy progress;
  • Advise educators about Michigan's professional development framework and characteristics of quality professional development;
  • Provide on-site, intensive technical assistance to select schools.
