Thank you for your interest in the
Michigan
School
for the Deaf. MSD is in its second hundred years of educating
Michigan
’s deaf and hard of hearing students. She celebrated her 152nd birthday this year. MSD is located on a beautiful green campus located in the middle of
Flint
,
Michigan
. We have approximately 175 students to start out this school year (2006-2007).
MSD follows a school calendar of approximately 180 days for all students. The educational program is similar in structure and sequence to that provided by public schools. We adhere to the same Michigan Standards and Benchmarks that all
Michigan
public schools are subject to. We also fully implement each and every IEP that places a child in our program.
Programming and services provided include: certified teachers of the Deaf, excellent role models that are both deaf and hearing, staff that are fluent in both American Sign Language (ASL) and English, residential living for those who live outside Genesee county, (50 mile radius) state mandated assessments, audiological services, transition services, functional living program, social work services, Deaf culture classes, Sign Language classes, health center staffed by registered nurses, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, auditory training, speech and language assessments.
After school and extra-curricular activities include basketball, soccer, volleyball, cheerleading, track, Singing Hands, Drama Club, Yearbook and Close-Up.
