West Michigan Transportation Operations Center

The West Michigan Transportation Operations Center's (TOC) operations focus on MDOT's goals of incident management, crash reduction, customer information, and congestion reduction. The TOC provides motorists and businesses with real-time traffic information and partners with emergency response agencies to provide improved response services to traffic crashes, saving lives, time, and money.

The West Michigan TOC serves motorists in MDOT's Grand Region. This ITS center for West Michigan, which began formal operations in April 2006, oversees a traffic monitoring system covering approximately 45 freeway miles and 18 non-freeway trunkline miles in the greater Grand Rapids area and Grand Haven.

Infrastructure includes:

  • 56 Traffic Surveillance Cameras
  • 25 Dynamic Message Signs
  • 4 Variable Speed Signs
  • 112 Vehicle Detectors
