General Information
Critical Needs grants are utilized to provide funding for the one-time, critical and immediate need of shelter or transitional housing facility where the health, safety, and/or well being of the residents are at risk. An immediate need is a current need that became apparent within the last 30 to 45 days. Eligible activities may include furnace replacement, plumbing, roofing, and other necessary rehabilitation work. (Other Critical Needs requests will be "considered" on a case-by-case basis.)
A dollar-for-dollar match is not required. The maximum request is $10,000.
In order to be eligible to apply, the applicant must have been providing shelter and/or services to the homeless for at least one-year prior to the date of application and must be a nonprofit with 501(c)(3) status. The applicant must also participate with the local continuum of care.
Application Filing Instructions
- Application for Critical Needs grants must be submitted via the web-based Homeless Assistance Link Online (HALO) system. Requests can be made anytime during the year.
- If your agency does not participate in the HALO system or for further information, phone (517) 241-1609.
