28GOVERNOR GRANHOLM ANNOUNCES AWARD OF $420,000 FROM STATE HOUSING AUTHORITY TO CITY OF SAGINAW FOR BLIGHT ELIMINATION LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced over $420,000 in funding from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) to the City of Saginaw as part of a Blight Elimination program through the Cities of Promise initiative. MSHDA will fund up to $25 million over the next four years toward blight elimination in eight Cities of Promise: Benton Harbor, Detroit, Flint, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Muskegon Heights, Pontiac and Saginaw.
21GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES HELP FOR IDLEWILD - ONE OF MICHIGAN'S CULTURAL ICONS LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced funding to bolster economic development in Idlewild, Michigan. The community, which is one of the state's historical and cultural icons, is located in northwest Michigan in Yates Township. The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has committed to funding $25,000 towards blight removal, economic development and restoration and preservation of historic property. This funding is part of Governor Granholm's efforts to create vibrant communities and community centers across the state that attract jobs and people to fuel growth.
19 GOVERNOR GRANHOLM ANNOUNCES NATIONAL AWARD FOR THE VIBRANT SMALL CITIES INITIATIVE THROUGH THE MICHIGAN STATE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, today announced that The Michigan Vibrant Small Cities Initiative administered through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has been awarded the Sterling Achievement Award for Community Development Programs by the Council of State Community Development Agencies (COSCDA). COSCDA is the premier national association advocating and enhancing the leadership role of states in community development through innovative policy development and implementation, customer-driven technical assistance, education and collaborative efforts. This is the first time ever the award was given for this type of initiative.
