Welcome to the Michigan Department of State Police website.
Since its establishment in 1917 as wartime constabulary to provide homeland security, our agency has seen incredible changes in the profession of policing. Innovations in modern technology, combined with our long-held traditions of service through excellence, integrity, and courtesy allow us to safeguard the citizens of our state more effectively than at any time in our history.
The MSP is a leader and a partner in providing public safety and law enforcement services for Michigan’s citizens. Along with our counterparts at the local, county, and federal levels of government, we are working diligently to prevent crime, apprehend fugitives, improve traffic safety, ensure homeland security, provide quality support services, pursue resources for expanded use of technology, and to maintain basic police services for our local communities.
The Michigan State Police believes in accountability as individuals and as an organization, cooperation through teamwork, and innovation in addressing the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We are a response-oriented organization, striving every day to protect families and meet the public safety needs of Michigan.
Thank you for allowing us the privilege of serving you. We hope that you enjoy your visit to our site and come back often.
