The West Region encompasses 56 of Michigan's 83 counties. The Region stretches across the west and northern Lower Peninsula and the entire Upper Peninsula. The Region consists of large metropolitan areas and vast rural areas. Region resources are comprised of the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Districts uniformed headquarters and the West Region Special Investigation Division. The Region provides uniform patrol, regional dispatch, and specialized investigative services.

The specialized investigative services provided by both the East and West Regions include the areas of organized crime, white collar crimes, tax fraud, auto theft, fugitive apprehension, narcotics trafficking and interdiction, computer crimes, identity fraud, casino gaming, surveillance, violent crimes, cold case homicides, anti-terrorism, video enhancement, and electronic technical services. Nineteen multijurisdictional drug task forces composed of state, local, county, and federal agencies are supervised by the East and West Region Special Investigation Divisions.
