In an attempt to lessen the chance for accidents, the Battle Creek Post has begun to assign patrols along I-94 for the 7-mile stretch between mile markers 81 and 88. The area has a cement barrier, and has historically been a problem, with heavy traffic resulting in frustrated drivers. On two occasions recently, a sergeant has ridden in an unmarked vehicle, looking for vehicles driving in an aggressive manor, i.e. tailgating, weaving in and out of lanes, or passing on the right. That sergeant radios other troopers ahead who are in the area and off the road, waiting to pull over the identified vehicles. The unmarked vehicle in traffic has proved to be a more effective tool than the parked patrol car for this endeavor.
