Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Colonel Peter C. Munoz is pleased to announce the promotion of Captain Eddie L. Washington, Jr., to lieutenant colonel and commander of the Field Services Bureau (FSB) effective May 18. 

In his new position, Washington serves as one of the department's three deputy directors and as a member of the department's Executive Council.  As commander of the FSB, Washington will provide executive direction and leadership to nearly 2,000 enlisted and civilian employees assigned to the department's posts and satellites, as well as the Southeast Criminal Investigation, Special Operations and Traffic Safety divisions.

Prior to his promotion, Washington served as commander of the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (EMHSD).  In this position, he was the Deputy State Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, responsible for the statewide management and administration of emergency management and homeland security programs, as well as the supervision of the division's 73 employees.

Washington enlisted with the department in 1984, and graduated as a member of the 98th Trooper Recruit School.  He served at the Bridgeport, Detroit and Ypsilanti posts, as well as the Human Resources, Training and Executive divisions and the First District Headquarters before being promoted to the EMHSD in 2006. 

During his career, Washington has held ranks of trooper, sergeant, lieutenant, first lieutenant, inspector, captain and now lieutenant colonel.

Prior to joining the department, Washington served in the United States Army.  He holds an associate degree in criminal justice from Wayne County Community College and a bachelor's degree in business administration from William Tyndale College.

A native of Detroit, Washington lives in Farmington Hills with his wife, Lisa, and their three children.
