FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: APRIL 9, 2002
Owosso, Michigan. At approximately 7:40 a.m., today, Michigan State Police, Owosso Post, personnel discovered smoke and fire coming into the post from an adjoining business. MSP immediately contacted 911, who dispatched the fire service. Post personnel began removing critical information, evidence, weapons, and other equipment until flames and smoke forced them to evacuate. There were no injuries of MSP personnel reported at the scene or as a result of this incident. The Owosso Post and several adjoining businesses sustained extensive damage.
The
Fire Marshal Division of the Michigan State Police is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire. The Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Department is providing police patrols throughout this incident, maintaining uninterrupted service to the citizens of Shiawassee County.
It is anticipated that normal Michigan State Police patrols will resume later this afternoon, once troopers are re-equipped.
