East Lansing, MI - The Michigan State Police has announced that forensic analyst Bryan Taube of the Southeast Criminal Investigative Division (SECID), Computer Crimes Unit, and forensic analyst Ron Krause of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Computer Crimes Unit, have earned the title of Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE) from the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS). Taube and Krause are two of five people in Michigan and the only Michigan State Police employees to receive such certification.
"Computer crimes is the largest growing area of crime" stated Lt. Col. Robert Bertee, Deputy Director, Investigative Services Bureau. "The certification is highly regarded in the forensics area and adds to their credentials when testifying in court on computer crimes cases. We are proud of their hard work and dedication to computer forensics."
The testing process to become a CFCE takes approximately one year and has been completed by only 300 people worldwide.
Taube has been an employee with SECID for two years. Prior to working for the Michigan State Police, Taube acted as the administrator and programmer for Munroe Process Tech for three years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Grand Valley State University.
Krause has been an employee with CID for two years. Prior to working for the Michigan State Police, Krause was a systems administrator for Michigan State University College of Engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University.
The Computer Crimes Units of the Michigan State Police was established to provide computer and Internet investigative support in the acquisition of digital evidence for the law enforcement community. Computer forensics involves the analysis of digital evidence and is a rising forensic science for criminal justice.
IACIS is an international volunteer non-profit corporation composed of law enforcement professionals dedicated to education in the field of forensic computer science. IACIS members represent Federal, State, Local and International Law Enforcement professionals. Regular IACIS members have been trained in the forensic science of seizing and processing computer systems.
