Mission Statement
The Forensic Science Division shall provide leadership, development, coordination, and delivery of "state of the art" forensic services to the criminal justice community.
ASCLD/LAB ACCREDITED (SINCE 1984)
Capt. Michael F. Thomas, Division Director
Insp. Gregoire Michaud, Assistant Division Commander
Insp. Thomas Dirlam, Assistant Division Commander
The division is comprised of seven laboratories and ten additional locations which provide polygraph testing services. State-of-the-art forensic laboratory services, including crime scene and 'post-blast' investigations, drug analysis, document examination, polygraph testing, latent print examination, AFIS, DNA analysis, toxicology analysis, blood/alcohol analysis, firearms and toolmark examination, arson evidence analysis, and serology and trace evidence analysis are provided to division clientele.
Division employees also appear in court to provide expert testimony regarding the evidence and analytical procedures used. Members of our "bomb squad" are called upon to 'render-safe' improvised explosive devices and on occasion unexploded military ordinance. Analysts in the laboratory system are continually updating their analytical skills and capabilities to meet the ever developing technological advancements in forensic science.
During 2006, the Forensic Science Division personnel completed 108,701 cases, offered expert testimony in 805 court cases, and responded to 211 crime scenes and 605 bomb/explosive scenes.
