Alpena Trooper Receives Lifesaving AwardContact: F/Lt. Mike Hahn, MSP Alpena Post Commander, (989) 354-4101 Agency: State Police
LANSING. At a special ceremony held in Lansing, Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue presented Tpr. Alan Burke of the Alpena Post with the MSP Lifesaving Award.
On Nov. 15, 2011, Burke and his partner responded to a call involving a motorist trapped inside of a burning vehicle. Upon arrival, his partner immediately retrieved a fire extinguisher from the patrol car while Burke pulled the man through the car window to safety. It was later determined that the man was suffering from a medical emergency.
In presenting Burke with the MSP Lifesaving Award, the department recognizes that if it was not for his quick actions, the man may not have survived.
Burke enlisted with the department in 1987, graduating as a member of the 101st Trooper Recruit School. Prior to arriving at the Alpena Post in April of 1998, Burke served as a trooper at the Iron River, Northville, Detroit and Gaylord posts.
